Miss NaTalia began her classical ballet training at the age of 8 at Ballet Lubbock. Instructors Suzanne Aker, Yvonne Racz and her sister Kandice Kelly were instrumental in molding the ballerina personally and professionally. After years of training in Texas, the young dancer was invited to move to New York City to study with Arthur Mitchell’s Dance Theatre of Harlem School. At the end of the summer she was accepted in the DTH Ensemble for the year. It was short lived. After only a few weeks, NaTalia was cast in the title role of Debbie Allen’s stage production of “Pearl” in Los Angeles. After a successful run with the musical theater show, the ballerina returned to New York to rejoin DTH and was promoted to an apprentice in the Dance Theatre of Harlem Company. With them she has toured all over the US, the UK, and Greece. She is a Principle Dancer with Ballet Noir in NYC. She is also a Principle with Urban Ballet Theater. She performed for the President of the United States at the Whitehouse with Grammy winner LeAnne Rimes on national television in 2006. She has been featured in Dance Magazine and Dancer Magazine and as the marquee image for the 2008 NuDance Festival in NYC. NaTalia has performed at numerous galas all over the US such as White Wave, The International Gala of Ballet Stars and recently made her second appearance at the International Ballet Festival. She can also been seen in Lois Greenfield’s 2010 calendar. Her dancing ability has led to appearances on both Fox and CNN networks yielding great reviews. After a performance in Urban Ballet Theatre’s Nutcracker, Metro New York News review read:
“The climatic Grand Pas de Deux shows off the refined classical lines of NaTalia Johnson, a young African-American Ballerina, the likes of which ABT and City Ballet would do well to cultivate.”
When she's not dancing in New York as a Principal Ballet Dancer with Urban Ballet Theatre, Ballet Noir and as a special guest with other dance companies around the world: Miss NaTalia travels the country performing for and speaking to children as the National Spokeswoman of the Girls Self-Esteem Programs and Youth Self Esteem Programs for Teens.
